Company's offerings include packaging, automotive, consumer products, agriculture, hygiene, and medical applications

ExxonMobil will demonstrate sustainable solutions at the booths of machine manufacturers (OEM) and distributors at K2022 in Düsseldorf, Germany.

“ Sustainable solutions for the value chain differ by segment needs. ExxonMobil is focused on addressing those needs by utilizing our full performance polymers offering and our Exxtend technology for advanced recycling,” said David Hergenrether, vice-president for polyethylene at ExxonMobil.

Visitors should drop by ExxonMobil’s information hub (North Entrance #11) for full details and directions to all the demonstrations, which cover packaging, automotive, consumer products, agriculture, hygiene, and medical applications.

There are at least 60 OEM collaborations at K2022.

Solutions made with certified circular polymers using Exxtend technology for advanced recycling of plastic waste, which can broaden the range of plastics that can be recycled, will be demonstrated. Certified circular polymers can deliver the same performance as virgin resins, which is critical if the value chain wants to use recycled content for sensitive applications such as food-grade packaging.

Then there are solutions that enable mechanically recycled content to be incorporated, and even increased, because ExxonMobil performance polymers are used to maintain or boost performance.

Mono-material solutions, such as PE//PE laminates, which are designed for recyclability by reducing the number of components, including those often considered more difficult to recycle.

Film formulations based on Exceed S performance polyethylene (PE) polymers which, by offering combinations of stiffness and toughness while being easy to process, enable converters to rethink film redesign for simpler solutions. Exceed S can help facilitate solutions with sustainability benefits by enhancing film performance, maintaining comparable performance at a thinner gauge, producing more durable mono-material film structures, or incorporating high percentages of recycled content.

Lubrication solutions that enhance the efficiency of hydraulic systems can lead to reduced energy consumption for both industrial and mobile equipment. ExxonMobil will showcase Mobil DTE 10 Excel Series, a hydraulic oil that allows up to a six percent increase in hydraulic pump efficiency, compared to standard hydraulic fluids. Long lubricant life helps minimize the need for waste oil disposal with the Mobil DTE 10 excel series, helping to extend oil change intervals and ensure clean systems.

ExxonMobil will introduce a product portfolio, including ExxonMobil PP grades, Vistamaxx performance polymers, and Exact plastomers, which has recently undergone rigorous certification for use in medical applications including syringes, springs, IV bags, and bottles.

“ K provides a unique opportunity for ExxonMobil to display and explain our full portfolio of solutions to take on the challenge of sustainability,” said Hergenrether. “Working with our customers and the value chain we can make a meaningful difference in the world.”

The Covid-19 pandemic led to the country-wide lockdown on 25 March 2020. It will be two years tomorrow as I write this. What have we learned in this time? Maybe the meaning of resilience since small companies like us have had to rely on our resources and the forbearance of our employees as we have struggled to produce our trade platforms.

The print and packaging industries have been fortunate, although the commercial printing industry is still to recover. We have learned more about the digital transformation that affects commercial printing and packaging. Ultimately digital will help print grow in a country where we are still far behind in our paper and print consumption and where digital is a leapfrog technology that will only increase the demand for print in the foreseeable future.

Web analytics show that we now have readership in North America and Europe amongst the 90 countries where our five platforms reach. Our traffic which more than doubled in 2020, has at times gone up by another 50% in 2021. And advertising which had fallen to pieces in 2020 and 2021, has started its return since January 2022.

As the economy approaches real growth with unevenness and shortages a given, we are looking forward to the PrintPack India exhibition in Greater Noida. We are again appointed to produce the Show Daily on all five days of the show from 26 to 30 May 2022.

It is the right time to support our high-impact reporting and authoritative and technical information with some of the best correspondents in the industry. Readers can power Packaging South Asia’s balanced industry journalism and help sustain us by subscribing.
