The Toyan FS-V800 scaled-down cross-plane crank V8 may be the ultimate toy for a petrolhead with an affinity for remote-controlled cars.
The engine which is a 1/10 scale cross-plane crank V8 is available for $1 800 which equates to about R30 000 and while that may seem like a vast amount, it is relatively affordable in comparison to other scaled-down motors that power miniature vehicles.
Chinese company Toyan provides all of the specifications to the scale-V8 engine on their website which can be ordered fully assembled or as a pre-assembled DIY kit. The specifications mentioned include a 90-degree cross-type crankshaft structure that has a displacement of 3,5 cc. Feeding air into the miniature mill are a pair of carburetors which include mixed splash lubrication since the Toyan FS-V800 doesn’t include its own independent lubrication system.
It is water cooled through which means that the mechanical water-cooling pump ensures that the components don’t exceed optimal operating temperatures. The small engine most notably runs on nitro fuel; a fairly available resource which is a good thing considering it is the only fuel recommended to run the diminutive V8.
The Toyan FS-V800 can be purchased on Stirlingkit with free worldwide shipping included in the $1 799,99 price tag. Specifying the engine with an additional starter motor will cost $299,99 more.

Toyan have mentioned that there will be more versions of this V8 in the future although its application will have to be adapted into a scaled-down remote-controlled car since Toyan don’t manufacture those themselves. Based on its convincing American V8 cross-plane crank V8, we’d have to recommend that it should be fit in a remote-controlled muscle car. With measurements of 127,3 mm in height, 123,42 mm in length and 32 mm in width it could find a suitable application in scale models ranging from 1/7 scale to ⅕ scale.
