Silverstream Technologies, headquartered in the United Kingdom, has completed trials of its air lubrication system Silverstream System on a new Ro-Ro ship named Eco Valencia built by Grimaldi Group.

During the initial performance test, the system saved approximately 5.1% in fuel and emissions.
The test started after the ship was put into service in the Mediterranean.
In order to measure fuel and emissions savings, the system was tested at various ship speeds and different sea conditions.
The company said that the technology creates a thin layer of microbubbles on the flat bottom of the hull, thereby reducing the frictional resistance between the water and the hull.
Eco Valencia is the first of nine Grimaldi Green fifth-generation (GG5G) design ships using the Silverstream system.
Four of these ships, namely Eco Valencia, Eco Barcelona, Eco Savona and Eco Livorno, have been built using this technology at the Jinling Shipyard of China Merchants Group.
Silverstream Technologies CEO Noah Silberschmidt said: "We would like to thank Grimaldi for continuing confidence in the Silverstream system. Silverstream will also deploy the technology on five ships of Finnlines, a subsidiary of Grimaldi Group, including three newly built GG5G ro-ro ships and two recently ordered ro-ro ships.
